Bolton's 2024 Sustainability Report: Driving Positive Impact and Setting Ambitious Targets

We are proud to share our key achievements for 2024: a year marked by significant progress in social and environmental responsibility. Our latest Sustainability Report details how our efforts are driving meaningful change in areas ranging from climate and sustainable packaging to responsible water management and ocean stewardship, as well as more inclusive workplaces and supply chains.

2024 Highlights

Governance
We established the Impact Executive Committee to drive strategic decisions on environment and social issues, accelerating positive impacts.

Positive Impacts Brand
We assessed our portfolio using sustainability criteria and set a target for at least 50% of revenue to come from more sustainable products by 2030. In 2024, 23.4% of net FMCG sales came from more sustainable products.

Climate Journey
We developed our first decarbonization roadmap and submitted our second CDP Climate Change questionnaire, maintaining a B score. We are also preparing to submit our Scope 1, 2 and 3 reduction targets to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) by 2026, a step forward in our commitment to reducing emissions and supporting global climate goals.

Packaging Circularity
We accelerated the implementation of our roadmap: 32% of our plastic packaging comes from recycled or bio-based sources and 99% of our packaging are recyclable, refillable or designed to be recycled. At the same time, we are moving forward by targeting 100% recycled or ASI-certified aluminum by 2035.

Water Resources and Ocean Stewardship
Recognising the importance of water, we conducted an in-depth analysis of water use at our sites and completed our first comprehensive water risk assessment. This has laid the groundwork for our new target: to audit 100% of sites in areas of high-water stress or identified operational risk by 2028.
Marine protection remains a priority. In 2024, 99.7% of the tuna used in our branded products is sourced through responsible fishing practices. We also achieved a 74% reduction in yellowfin tuna sourced from the Indian Ocean compared to our 2020 baseline - supporting stock recovery. Looking ahead, we aim for at least 95% of the tuna used in our products to come from healthy stocks every year. We also set a new target for our food category: 70% of farmed salmon from certified sourcing by 2030.

Employees Wellbeing
We continued to build inclusive and positive workplaces, launching a new two-year action plan based on findings from our EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) and Great Place to Work surveys. We're renewing our commitment to fair pay with the goal of ensuring that 100% of our employees are paid at least the living wage by 2035. In addition, we will conduct a comprehensive gender pay equity study with the aim of addressing subsequent gaps by 2030.

Responsible Sourcing
We developed a due diligence management system for our seafood supply chain in collaboration with OXFAM and introduced new supplier assessment targets, tailored to sector-specific characteristics.

"Our 2024 results reflect the strong commitment of everyone at Bolton and the collaborative spirit of our partners. Every step - from advancing decarbonization and increasing materials circularity, to promoting water stewardship, protecting marine ecosystem and fostering inclusive workplaces and responsible supply chains - brings us closer to our vision of a sustainable future. We remain committed to driving innovation and generating positive impact every day," said Ylenia Tommasato, Group Sustainable Development Director at Bolton.
